Box Score MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team fought hard, but it wasn't enough to take down crosstown rival College of Charleston as the Cougars recorded a 6-1 win over the Bulldogs at Patriot's Point.
The Cougars went up early to claim the doubles point earning wins in all three positions.
Brice Allanic and Alon Faiman defeated
Peter Bleach and
Artemie Amari in the No. 1 slot by scores of 8-1 while Charlie Ghriskey and Zack Lewis topped
Jackson Pride and
Oliver Dedding in the No. 2 position, 8-2.
Josh Record and Garrett Gorddon closed out the doubles in the No. 3 spot and claimed the win over
Connor Grady and
Ryan Templet, 8-1.
In singles play, Allanic and Bleach faced off again in the No. 1 position. Bleach fought but wasn't able to hold on and fell to Allanic 6-3, 6-4.
Amari topped the Cougar's Rodrigo Encinas in the No. 2 spot to secure the only point for the Bulldogs. Amari beat Encinas in straight sets by scores of 7-5, 6-3.
Ghriskey took down Dedding in the No. 3 position by scores of 6-2, 6-3 while Vasily Kichigin defeated
Jackson Pride, 6-0, 6-2.
Lewis topped Grady in the No. 5 spot by scores of 6-0, 6-0 and Faiman beat Bove in the No. 6 slot, 6-0, 6-0.
The Citadel is back in action on Sunday for their final home match against Mercer at 1 p.m.
