Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team battled but fell 7-0 in their final home match of the season on Sunday against Mercer at the Earle Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs slip to 2-25 overall and 0-4 in Southern Conference play after the loss.
Peter Bleach and
Artemie Amari fought in the No. 1 doubles position against Mercer's Arnav Mohanty and Arsav Mohanty but were topped in extra sets, 9-8.
Jackson Pride and
Oliver Dedding battled in the No. 2 slot but came up short to Austin Emmet and Oliver Snaider by scores of 8-2 while Nick Bradley and
Connor Grady fell to Sam Philip and Anderson Scarpa in the No. 3 position, 8-1.
In singles play, Amari faced off with Snaider in the No. 1 spot. Amari played a competitive match but dropped to Snaider by scores of 6-4, 6-3.
Bleach was topped by Mohanty in the No. 2 position by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and Bradley was defeated by Scarpa in the No. 3 spot in extra sets, 7-6, 7-5.
Pride, Dedding and Bove all fell in straight sets in the No. 4, 5 and 6 singles positions.
Head Coach
Chuck Kriese was pleased with his team's competitive play against Mercer.
"I have no problem with the way our team competed," said Kriese. "We are and have been competing and engaging every point of every match. When we learn to close the door with the opportunities we create we will start finishing and learn how to carry leads."
The team is back in action on April 12 against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C.
