ASHEVILLE N.C. – The Citadel volleyball team defeated SC State in four sets Saturday afternoon at the final day of the UNC Asheville Invitational.

The Bulldogs (4-7) triumphed against South Carolina State, earning the win in four sets (17-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-16).

"We had to overcome another slow start today against a very athletic SC State," head coach
Craig Mosqueda said. "The team fought hard and overcame a couple deficits before taking over in the fourth set."

Junior
Megan Sowell led the Bulldogs' attack, posting a match-high 18 kills and 12 digs. Junior
Samantha Espy paved the way for The Citadel's defense, recording a match-high 24 digs while sophomore
Logan Smith had 41 assists.

The Bulldogs dropped their second game of the day to New Orleans, falling in four sets (9-25, 27-29, 27-25, 22-25).

Sophomore
Moriah Smith recorded a double-double with a match-high 21 kills and 10 digs, earning an attack percentage of .347. Espy posted another match-high 21 digs, while Smith provided 42 assists.

The Citadel volleyball team returns to McAlister Field House to take on Charleston Southern on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
