CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team travels to Illinois for a pair of duals Sunday including a SoCon matchup with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a nonconference dual with Northern Illinois. Both events will be held at the Vadalabene Center on the campus of SIUE.

The Bulldogs (4-3, 1-0 SoCon)Â will face SIUE first at 1 p.m. The Cougars are currently 1-7 overall this year, 0-3 in Southern Conference action, and are tied for last in the SoCon with VMI. This will be the first home SoCon dual of the season for the Cougars.

At 2:30 p.m., the Bulldogs will take on Northern Illinois, which boasts two ranked wrestlers on the 3-5 squad. Steve Bleise is currently No. 17, according to InterMat rankings, at 141 pounds and Shawn Scott is No. 19 in the 197-pound division. The Huskies are members of the Mid-American Conference and have faced stiff competition for most of the season, including No. 13 Illinois and No. 19 Central Michigan.

The Citadel heads north after a four-dual weekend last week at the Virginia Duals. Despite going 1-3 on the weekend, the Bulldogs had strong individual performances from
Aaron Walker (15-5) who finished 4-0 with two pins.
Matt Frisch (13-6) tallied a 3-1 record including a 4-2 decision over Chad Saunders of Virginia Tech. Senior
Marshall Haas also had a strong showing, collecting three wins to run his record up to 15-6. Haas currently boasts the best record in the SoCon at 197 pounds. Scottie Boykin of Chattanooga is the next best wrestler at 197 with a 13-6 record. Between the three upperclassmen, they have a combined record of 43-17.
