COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Citadel men's tennis team downed Spartanburg Methodist 7-0 on Saturday morning in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and then fell to South Carolina on Saturday afternoon in Columbia, South Carolina.
 
The Bulldogs earned their first win of the season over the Pioneers after sweeping all three doubles matches and six singles matchups. At the No. 5 position, Roy Hobson fell down 5-0 in the first set but rallied for 13 straight wins to sweep the Pioneer's Austin Green.
 
In the nightcap against No. 59 South Carolina, senior Jackson Pride jumped out to a 3-0 lead over South Carolina's Sam Swank in the four position but was unable to hang on to the lead and eventually fell 7-5 in the first set and then 6-3 in the second. In doubles action, Artemie Amari and Nicholas Bradley were the only Bulldogs to force a seventh game tiebreak against the Gamecocks.
 
The Bulldogs now travel to Georgia for three matches in two days as they take on Georgia Gwinnett at 10 a.m. and Point University at 4 p.m. on Feb. 6th. The Citadel will then face Brevard on Feb. 7th at a time to be determined.
