GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Citadel volleyball team fell in four sets 25-17, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-15 in a Southern Conference match at UNCG on Friday night.
Middle hitter
Sarah Dobrich finished with four block assists, tying the program single-season record with 87 block assists. The freshman also recorded six kills in the match and a .455 hitting percentage.
Outside hitters
Moriah Smith and
Carla Bruce led the team with eight kills each. Libero
Samantha Espy paced the Bulldogs with 18 digs. Setter
Logan Smith posted 18 assists followed by
Priscilla Irizarry with 15. Right side hitter
Megan Sowell added seven kills for The Citadel.
After dropping the first two sets, the Bulldogs (8-21, 1-12) kept the match going with a 25-22 third set victory. The Citadel trailed 15-11 in the set, but tied the score at 17 apiece after taking six of eight points. The Bulldogs then grabbed their first lead of the set on a Spartan ball handling error. The Bulldogs closed the set out on a Dobrich kill followed by a service ace from the freshman.
The Bulldogs hit .068 for the match, but finished with a .297 hitting percentage in the third set. As a team, they finished with six blocks, four service aces and 65 digs.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday afternoon, visiting Wofford at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available for the match.
