SUMTER, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team won two matches Saturday to complete a perfect four-match run through the USC Sumter Spring Tennis Classic.
The Bulldogs (7-6) opened the day by defeating the host USC Sumter team 9-0 and completed the sweep of competition with a 9-0 win Saturday afternoon over Erskine. With the sweep, The Citadel pushed its winning streak to six straight matches.
"We had a very good weekend," head coach
Chuck Kriese said. "The guys finished strong, and I'm most proud of the toughness they showed all weekend. They gave up very few easy points and support each other on the court. The guys know we have work to do but it is exciting to see their growth."
Against the host Fire Ants, The Citadel's depth was a major difference as the Bulldogs won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. The perfect matches were courtesy of

Jackson Pride earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3, and
Matthew Henson claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2. The No. 1 spot was the most competitive, but
Nicholas Bradley pulled out a 6-3, 7-6 win to complete the singles' sweep. In doubles, Brady and Pride teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 1, Henson and
Michael Anzalone won 8-1 at No. 2 and at No. 3 Grady and Bove took an 8-0 decision.
The Bulldogs didn't drop a set against Erskine, and Davis dominated 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 for his victory. Pride took a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Anzalone won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5. Henson and Hobson won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively, and Bradley took a 5-0 lead at No. 1 before his opponent retired due to injury. In doubles, Amari and Bradley took an 8-2 win at No. 1, and Pride and Grady won by the same score at No. 3. No. 2 doubles was a tight match with Henson and Anzalone prevailing 8-7.
The Bulldogs head to Tallahassee, Florida, next weekend, where they are scheduled to face Florida State, Florida A&M and Liberty.
