TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Citadel tennis team dropped its two matches at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Florida, on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (7-8) opened the day by falling to 25th-ranked Florida State (7-2) by a 6-1 decision before Florida A&M (2-6) took a 5-2 victory in the afternoon.
"We competed well," head coach
Chuck Kriese said. "We tried to not let either team have any easy points. I'm proud of
Michael Anzalone for his tough play today. Florida State was the better team, and I give Florida A&M credit for playing the big points better. We had a good run the last couple of weekends, and we will have to learn from these losses."
Anzalone, a freshman from Queens, New York, claimed victories at No. 6 singles in both matches. He won the Bulldogs' team point against Florida State by earning a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (11) victory and put together a 7-6, 3-6, 1-0 (10) win against Florida A&M. Sophomore
Artemie Amari claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against the Rattlers.
The Citadel finishes its weekend with a Sunday morning matchup against Liberty. The Bulldogs and Flames are set for a 9 a.m. start from the Speicher Tennis Center.
