MACON, Ga.
– The Citadel tennis team dropped both matches of a doubleheader to Mercer at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center on Saturday.

The Citadel (8-23, 0-4) and Mercer (7-11, 2-0) were forced to wait out a rain delay before the day's competition could start. The Bears claimed a 6-1 decision in the first match and won 5-1 in the second match, which featured only singles competition and did not count as a Southern Conference match for conference standings.

"We got better every match this weekend," head coach Chuck Kriese said. "Today's evening match was only decided at the very end. We didn't quite know how to finish yet again, but the more reps we get at taking it to the wire the better we will be. The only way to get there is to go through the pain of finishing short until we learn how to push through, but we battled them to the end. Mercer beat Clemson earlier this season, and they are a very good team that is very well coached. I'm looking forward to a good week of training over spring break."

In the first match, sophomore Artemie Amari claimed his second straight singles win with a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6) victory at No. 2. After dropping the first set, Amari fought back from a 2-5 deficit in the second set to earn his team-high 12th win this season.

Sophomore Nicholas Bradley scored the Bulldogs' team point in the second match. The Waldwick, New Jersey, native earned a 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 2 for his 10th victory this season and sixth at the No. 2 position in the lineup.

The Citadel returns to action next weekend when it hosts three matches. The Bulldogs are set to welcome Georgia Southern on Saturday and Chattanooga and the College of Charleston on Sunday to the Earle Tennis Center.
