CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team fell to East Carolina and Campbell on Sunday at the Earle Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (7-12) dropped their morning match to East Carolina (7-4) by a score of 7-0 and were defeated 6-1 by Campbell (3-6) in the afternoon competition.
"Our team is very close, and the players are continuing to grow each time they compete," head coach
Chuck Kriese said. "It was a good day for Matt and Artemie in doubles. Our doubles are getting solid. Like last week's match against Appalachian State, we just could not close the door. We continued to do the work and move forward. We will break through very soon."
Against the Camels, freshman
Matthew Henson earned a straight-sets victory at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-4. Henson also teamed with sophomore
Artemie Amari to win 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. The duo also won 6-1 at the top doubles spot against ECU. In the No. 2 doubles match,
Nicholas Bradley and
Michael Anzalone pushed their match to a tiebreaker but the Pirates claimed a 7-6 (4) win to take the doubles point.
The Campbell match was tightly contested throughout each singles position. At No. 1, Amari won the first set before dropping a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 decision. Freshman
