Bulldogs Fall In Southern Conference Opener

Box Score Box Score (PDF)

CHARLESTON, S.C.
– The Citadel tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to UNCG at the Earle Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (7-13, 0-1) fought tough in doubles before ultimately dropping the opening point. Artemie Amari and Roy Hobson pushed the No. 1 match to a tiebreaker and fell 7-6, and the matches at No. 2 and No. 3 were decided by only two games.

"UNCG did a good job fighting off our runs in doubles," head coach Chuck Kriese said. "It was one of those should've-could've-would've won it for us in doubles. They carried the confidence in singles, and the credit goes to them for a hard-fought win. I'm extremely proud of Roy Hobson and his continued development. Our four freshmen are developing very quickly and competing very well. We're looking forward to competing again Thursday."

Hobson, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, claimed the Bulldogs' point with a straight-set 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 6 spot. UNCG (5-4, 1-0) claimed straight-set victories at the other positions with the exception of No. 4, which the Spartans won when Matthew Henson was forced to retire with the first set tied 3-3.

The Citadel returns to the Earle Tennis Center on Thursday to host James Madison at 1 p.m. and Boston University at 7 p.m. Admission to both matches is free.
