CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's and women's track and field teams are competing in the Charleston area on Saturday for the first time this spring. Both squads will participate in the second annual one-day Lowcountry Collegiate Track and Field Invitational.
The Bulldogs will face off against competitors from Georgia Southern, College of Charleston, South Carolina State and Savannah State, among other programs. The meet is taking place at the Peyton Johnson Moore Track and Field Complex in Mount Pleasant.
Field events kick off action at 10 a.m. with the men's and women's javelin throw and conclude at 3 p.m. with the men's and women's shot put competition. The 3,000-meter steeplechase will launch the running events at 1 p.m. and the day will end with the 4x400-meter relays at approximately 4:50 p.m.
At last weekend's Bill Carson Invitational, the Bulldogs shined in field events, collecting six personal records and six top-ten finishes. Graduate senior Capers Williamson added another program record-breaking toss in the javelin throw and earned Southern Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors for his efforts. The Citadel has at least two Bulldogs competing in every field event at the Lowcountry Invite, with the exception of the pole vault events.
