SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After battling back from four runs down to take the lead, The Citadel baseball team lost the second game of the series to Wofford on Saturday afternoon 10-9.

The Bulldogs (13-22, 3-5 SoCon) jumped on top early, scoring three runs off of two walks and a hit by pitch in the top of the first inning. Wofford (20-17, 4-7 SoCon) answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the frame on a double to right field, but
Thomas Byelick fanned the last two batters of the inning to end the Terriers' scoring threat and keep the Bulldogs' lead at one.

The Terriers took their first lead of the game in the third inning, tacking on five runs in the bottom of the frame and then another run in the fourth to make it 8-4. The Citadel responded with two runs of its own in the fifth inning to cut the Wofford lead to just two and then added two more runs in the seventh inning on a two-out double to the right field wall by
Jacob Watcher that tied the score 8-8.

The Citadel recaptured the lead in the eighth inning on a double off the left field wall by
Steven Hansen with two outs to make it 9-8 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Wofford regained the lead for good in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded shortstop
William Kinney fielded the ball and threw to second where the runner called safe forcing Watcher to throw home where the Wofford runner was able to slide around the tag and score the winning run.

Stephen Windham threw out two runners attempting to steal second base in the bottom of the sixth inning, running his season total up to 18.

Offensively, the Bulldogs were 7-for-16 with two outs and registered 12 hits.
Steven Hansen and
Bret Hines each had three hits, two RBI and one run scored in the contest, and
Jason Smith finished two-for-four. Watcher also finished with two RBI.

Byelick, making his ninth start of the season, matched his career high with 8 Ks in 5.1 innings.
Jordan Buster came on in relief and tossed 1.2 innings of hitless ball.
Kyle Smith and
Zach Lavery combined to pitch the last inning.
