Bulldogs Blanked By Eagles

CHARLESTON, S.C.
– The Citadel tennis team fell 7-0 to Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center.

"Credit goes to Georgia Southern for beating us solidly today," head coach Chuck Kriese said. "Points were fought hard for, but this is one of the first teams this year that has beaten us off of the ground. It's like getting pushed back off the line of scrimmage in football or losing in the paint in basketball. They were better at controlling the rallies. They are a well-coached and well-conditioned team."

The Citadel (8-24) dropped the doubles point after Georgia Southern (14-5) swept all three doubles matches. The No. 1 contest was the closest with Artemie Amari and Matthew Henson battling before ultimately falling 7-5 to the Eagles' top doubles duo. Georgia Southern was able to keep that momentum and claim all six singles matches in straight sets.

"To our guys' credit, no one gave up," Coach Kriese said. "We are very, very close to being an excellent team. The scores do not show it, but I know it by how we are competing each and every time on the court. There is still a lot on the table to play for, and the team is getting better each day."

The Bulldogs return to the court with two matches in Charleston on Sunday. A Southern Conference meeting with Chattanooga is set for Noon at the Earle Tennis Center before a crosstown matchup with College of Charleston at Patriots Point at 7 p.m. Admission to both matches is free.
