COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team dropped its final midweek game of the season 16-4 to No. 10 South Carolina on Tuesday evening at Founders Park.

South Carolina (39-13) scored three runs on two hits in the first inning of the game but
Ryan Stamler came in and struck out the first two batters he faced to get the Bulldogs (16-37) out of the first-inning jam. Stamler tossed 1.2 innings and did not allow a hit.

Senior
Stephen Windham got The Citadel on the board in the top of the fourth frame with his third home run of the year to make it 6-1. Fellow seniors
Steven Hansen and
Bret Hines followed Windham with singles of their own in the inning but were unable to advance and were left aboard.

The Gamecocks posted seven in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 13-1 lead.

The Citadel got three back a half inning later, stringing together three straight hits for a three-run rally with two outs.
William Kinney and Hines both recorded singles and an RBI and
Barrett Charpia connected on a 1-0 pitch for his first career triple to plate a run, making the score 13-4.

South Carolina added three more in the eighth to make the final score 16-4.

Windham and Hines both finished with two hits, one run scored and one RBI. The Citadel had eight hits total.

Nate Brecklin made his first start of the season on the mound, giving up two hits. The senior's last start came two years earlier on May 13, 2014, at South Carolina.
Johnny Croley pitched 2.0 innings of relief and fanned a career-high four batters while allowing four hits.
Kyle Smith made his seventh straight appearance on the mound for the Bulldogs, tossing 1.0 inning and striking out two.

The Bulldogs finish out the 2016 regular season on the road, traveling to ETSU for a three-game series. First pitch Thursday is set for 6 p.m., Friday's game is slated for 6 p.m. and the series finale will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
