GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team was handed its first loss in the Southern Conference Tournament by top-seeded Mercer on Wednesday afternoon.

Mercer (36-21) struck first in the bottom of the third, scoring twice on two solo home runs to take a 2-0 lead and then extended its lead to 11-0 after plating nine runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Bears added two more in the bottom of the fifth inning, making it 13-0.

The Citadel (17-41) broke into the runs column in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a single to left field by
Stephen Windham, scoring
William Kinney from second base.

Clay Martin finished the game two-for-three with
Ben Peden, Windham and Deese accounting for the other hits in the contest.
