CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team dropped a four-set match against Wofford, 26-28, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-21 Friday night at McAlister Field House.

Outside hitter Moriah Smith and right side hitter Megan Sowell led the team with 14 kills each. Smith finished with her 12th double-double of the season, racking up 12 digs along with a team-high six block assists.

The Bulldogs (6-12, 0-3 SoCon) started the match with a tough first set victory, needing extra points to claim the set 28-26 over Wofford. Despite trailing 18-12, the Bulldogs fought back to cut the deficit down to 18-16. The Terriers took three of the next four points, looking in control to take the first set with a 21-17 lead.

The Citadel responded with seven straight points, however, leading 24-21 with a chance at the first set point. Wofford battled back with three points, evening the set at 24-24. The teams traded the next four points, before the Bulldogs claimed the set on kills by Sowell and outside hitter Carla Bruce.

In set two, Wofford (9-8, 2-1 SoCon) came out of the gates firing, grabbing leads of 7-1 and 13-3. The Bulldogs cut the lead down to six, 16-10, but could not get any closer as the Terriers evened the score 25-15.

The Bulldogs battled in a back-and-forth third set that featured five tied scores. The teams were locked up late in the set 19-19 before the Terriers earned four straight points, eventually taking the set 25-21.
After falling behind in sets two and three, the Bulldogs sprung out to a 5-1 lead in set four. They held the lead until Wofford eventually tied it up at 12 apiece. Later, with the score even at 16, Wofford would take over the lead for good, claiming the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.

The Bulldogs finished with a .220 hitting percentage, hitting over .300 in both the first (.375) and fourth (.310) sets. They held an 8-4 advantage in total blocks and were more effective from the service line, finishing with six service errors to the Terriers' 12.
