• The Citadel is opening its season with two Southern Conference games for the second time in program history and first since 1963 when the Bulldogs hosted William & Mary in week one and traveled to Davidson for week two.
• The Bulldogs have won their Southern Conference opener each of the past two seasons and three of the last five years.
• The Citadel is 22-17 all-time when ranked, including 19-14 against FCS opponents, and are 13-9 against FCS opponents when ranked in the top 15.
• Redshirt freshman
Jordan Black made his collegiate debut and first career start in the season-opening win at Mercer. Black rushed 11 times for 25 yards and was 6-of-9 passing for 79 yards, including 3-of-3 on third down.
• Senior B-Back
Tyler Renew was named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week after he led all SoCon rushers in week one with 146 yards in the Bulldogs' 24-23 win at Mercer, including a career-long rush of 70 yards for a touchdown on the second play from scrimmage to give The Citadel a 7-0 lead 39 seconds into the game. He also added one reception for 15 yards turning a 2nd-and-17 into 3rd-and-2 on the Bulldogs' drive for the game-winning field goal in the 4th quarter. His 161 all-purpose yards rank 2nd in the SoCon.

Tyler Renew has recorded at least 100 yards rushing in four of the last five games. He rushed for 146 in the 2016 season opener at Mercer, 129 yards at No. 9 Coastal Carolina in the first round of the 2015 FCS Playoffs, a career-high 174 at South Carolina and 115 at No. 9 Chattanooga.
• Since the beginning of the 2014 season, the Bulldogs' offensive line has been one of the most efficient in the country. The Citadel offense has produced 28 100-yard rushing performances, including a school-record 14 in 2015, and ranked 2nd in FCS in rushing yards per game in 2014 and 2015.

Jonathan King recorded a career-high 2.0 tackles for loss, including 0.5 sack, in the 24-23 win at Mercer as part of a four-tackle game. His 2.0 TFLs tied for 2nd in the SoCon in week one and for 1st against a Division I opponent.
• Junior
Myles Pierce made his first collegiate start at Mercer and led the Bulldogs' linebackers with a career-high five tackles, including four solo stops.
• Sophomore
Noah Dawkins made a career-high four tackles, including 0.5 for loss, in the 24-23 win at Mercer.
• Senior safety
Malik Diggs led the Bulldogs with a career-high-tying 11 tackles, tied for the 2nd-highest total in the SoCon in week one, and added one pass breakup in the season-opening win at Mercer. His nine solo tackles were the most in the SoCon and fifth in FCS.
• Junior safety
Kailik Williams made six tackles, including 0.5 sack, one interception and one pass breakup in the 24-23 win at Mercer. His interception clinched the victory, ending Mercer's final drive with 17 seconds left in the game.
• Junior cornerback
Ben Roberts made his first collegiate start in the season-opening win at Mercer and recorded a career-high six tackles and one pass breakup.

Quinlan Washington averaged 32.0 yards for his two kickoff returns in the season-opening win at Mercer. His average ranked 1st in the Southern Conference and 6th in FCS in week one. Last season, Washington was selected as a second-team All-Southern Conference return specialist as a redshirt freshman. His 572 kickoff return yards ranked 1st in the SoCon and 40th in FCS, and he ranked 3rd in the SoCon and 40th in FCS with a kickoff return average of 23.8 yards per return, the 9th-best single-season average in program history.
• Graduate transfer
Cody Clark made his first field goal as a Bulldog, knocking the game-winning, 35-yard field goal through the uprights with 2:20 remaining in the 24-23 win at Mercer. He was a perfect 3-for-3 on PAT attempts to tie for 1st among SoCon kickers against Division I opposition in week one.
