CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team will travel to Hampton, Virginia, to compete in the Virginia Duals that begin on Friday and continue into Saturday.Â
The Bulldogs (1-2, 0-1 SoCon) took on the Appalachian State Mountaineers (8-2, 5-0) last week in Boone, North Carolina, where the Bulldogs fell in their first conference match 34-15.
Both Ty Buckiso, who is 12-12 this season, and Aaron Walker, who improved to 13-7, won their matches by fall. Sawyer Root earned his 10th victory of the season by winning his match with a 7-2 decision.
Buckiso dominated the Mountaineers' James Clark at 149 pounds by leading 10-0 before pinning his opponent in 2 minutes, 30 seconds. In the 157-lb. weight class, Walker battled App State's Gavin Londoff and lead 4-1 before closing the match by a pin in 5:38, giving the Bulldogs a 12-9 lead. Â
The Bulldogs will compete against North Dakota State on Friday at 9:00 a.m. and will take on Virginia at 11:00 a.m. The Citadel's next opponent and time will be determined based on the results of the previous matches.Â
