Hampton, Va. - The Bulldogs fell Friday against North Dakota State, Virginia, and Old Dominion at the Hampton Coliseum for the 37th Annual Virginia Duals.  Â
Ty Buckiso, a 149-pound junior, received The Citadel's first win of the day with a 5-4 decision over Mitch Friedman of North Dakota State. The Citadel's
Aaron Walker faced off against NDSU's Kyle Gliva in the 157-lb. weight class and won with a 7-2 decision. Sophomore
Sawyer Root won the 197-lb. round with a 7-5 sudden victory in overtime against Cordell Eaton of NDSU, but the Bulldogs fell 36-9.
The Bulldogs put up a fight against the Virginia Cavaliers but fell 38-3. Walker clashed in an exciting match, falling to Virginia's No. 8-ranked Andrew Atkinson in a 14-13 decision. Root earned a strong victory over UVA's Chance McClure with a decision of 4-2.
Patrick Kearney from the 125-lb. bracket brought home the Bulldogs' first pin of the tournament in 3 minutes, 53 seconds against Steven Simpson of Old Dominion. Buckiso outlasted Old Dominion's Michael Hayes with a decision of 2-1. Walker from the 157-lb. weight class followed with another pin against Shane Jones of ODU in 4:51.
Joe Bexley received a 3-1 sudden victory in overtime against ODU's Will Hilliard, finishing the day for the Bulldogs who dropped a close 25-18. The Citadel returns to the mat Saturday against Kent State to conclude the Virginia Duals at 10 a.m.
