LEXINGTON, Va. – The Citadel women's soccer team dropped a nail-biter of a Southern Conference match, 1-0 on the road at VMI Friday afternoon at Patchin Field.
The Bulldogs (5-11, 0-8 SoCon) out-shot the Keydets (6-10-1, 3-4-1) 12-10 in the contest, but nine VMI corner kicks gave the Keydets six more chances at set pieces in the box.
The lone goal was scored in the 29
th minute when VMI's Amy Horney put her head to the ball off a free kick from Taylor Callahan.
Logan Leask (L, 1-9) was the goal keeper of record for the Bulldogs while Ceci Keppeler (W, 5-9-1) played all 90 minutes between the pipes to earn the shutout for VMI.
The Bulldogs will next head to Greensboro, N.C., to close out the regular season with a 2 p.m. first kick on Sunday, Oct. 22, against UNCG.
