CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 22
nd-ranked Citadel rifle team returns home this weekend to host 23
rd-ranked Georgia Southern, 25
th-ranked UAB and 27
th-ranked Wofford at the Inouye Marksmanship Center on Saturday, Oct. 28, as part of Homecoming festivities. The action will get underway at 8 a.m.
"This should be another good weekend for us, especially because we will have a chance for everyone to compete since we will be at home," said head coach
William Smith. "We have been performing well to this point and hopefully last weekend's challenge in Dahlonega will give us some confidence heading into this weekend."
Saturday will mark the second time this season the Bulldogs will have faced off against Georgia Southern as the two went head-to-head last weekend in Dahlonega, Ga., in a tri-match at North Georgia. The Bulldogs defeated the Eagles 4544-4497. The Eagles were led by Rosemary Kramer's aggregate total of 1147, which placed her third overall after a tiebreaker with teammate Lily Wade.
UAB has competed in just two matches so far this season, beginning their season on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the University of Memphis. Last weekend, the Blazers traveled to Spartanburg, S.C., where they defeated Wofford 4454-4330. The match was the first of the season for the Terriers. UAB was paced by Olivia Francisco's 1125 and Selina Curren's 1116 while Wofford was led by Marcus Stallings' 1087 and Andrew Visconti's 1086.
Last weekend, The Citadel rifle team went up against 17
th-ranked North Georgia and 23
rd-ranked Georgia Southern on Saturday, Oct. 21, at North Georgia's COL. Raymond C. Hamilton Rifle Range. The Bulldogs' co-ed team finished the match second with an aggregate score of 4544, just 43 points behind the Nighthawks' 4587. Georgia Southern finished third with a 4497 while The Citadel's women's team ended the day with an aggregate score of 4137.
Freshman
Max Brabston tied North Georgia's Dakota Spivey with an overall score of 1151, but Brabston won the tiebreaker to claim top honors on the day. Brabston finished third in smallbore with a 570, but picked up the missed points in air rifle, where he finished sixth with a 581.
Allison Auten rebounded from a 12
th-place finish in smallbore (549), ending her day second in air rifle with a season-best 588, just two off Georgia Southern's Rosemary Kramer who paced air rifle with a 590. Auten's 1137 aggregate score was good enough for eighth overall and was her season-best.
Alexander McAlear gave the Bulldogs three shooters in the top-10 overall finish as he ended his day with an 1130, including 10
th in smallbore with a 554 and eighth in air rifle with a 576.
Colton Poole,
Morgan Long and
Leah Fenwrick-Wallace rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs on Saturday. Poole ended the day with a score of 1130 (556 smallbore, 570 air rifle), Long ended his day with an 1118 (545 smallbore, 573 air rifle) and Fenwrick-Wallace finished the match with a 1097 (532 smallbore, 565 air rifle).
For the women's team,
Carli Cline led the way with a 1079 on the day, including a 523 in smallbore and 556 in air rifle. Just behind her was
Shay Littlejohn, who finished the day with a 1055 (517 smallbore, 538 air rifle).
Lauren Pringle ended her day with a 1005 (489 smallbore, 516 air rifle) and
Tierra Price rounded out the women's team's scoring with a 998 (485 smallbore, 513 air rifle).
