CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 22
nd-ranked Citadel rifle team posted its season best aggregate team score Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs fell by just two points to 23
rd-ranked Georgia Southern, but defeated 25
th-ranked UAB and 27
th-ranked Wofford at the Inouye Marksmanship Center.
The 4584 aggregate team score bested last week's team score for The Citadel by 40 points and topped their previous season-high by 30 points. The difference maker was the Bulldogs' smallbore score, which at 2272 was 18 points better than the previous season-high in the discipline.
"We have continued to get better each week this season, and that's what you like to see, especially from your younger shooters," said head coach
William Smith. "We only have one more match this semester and it is important to continue to remain focused and make improvements."
Georgia Southern finished the day atop the field with a 4586 while UAB finished third, Wofford fourth and the Citadel women's team fifth. UAB posted a 4522, Wofford a 4415 and the Bulldog women a 4227.
Georgia Southern's Rosemary Kramer took individual medalist honors with an aggregate score of 1164, including an impressive 591 in air rifle. However, the Bulldog co-ed team placed five shooters in the top-10 led by
Max Brabston in second,
Allison Auten in fifth,
Alexander McAlear seventh,
Colton Poole eighth and
Morgan Long ninth.
Brabston matched his season-high aggregate score with an 1155, including posting his season-high in air rifle with a 585. The 585 was good enough for third-best in the discipline. He also added a 570 in smallbore.
Auten set a personal season-high with an aggregate score of 1146, including a season-high 564 in smallbore and a 582 in air rifle while Poole recorded his top smallbore score of the season with a 572. Poole ended the day with an 1134 aggregate score, including a 562 in air rifle.
Long also posted a season-high in air rifle with a 576. When matched with his 551 in smallbore, Long ended the day with an 1127.
For the women's team,
Carli Cline led the way with a personal season-best 1091, including season-bests in both disciplines. Cline scored a 532 in smallbore and then followed that up with a 559 in air rifle.
Lauren Pringle ended the day second on the team with a 1067 (521 smallbore, 546 air rifle), which was a season-best for her. Not far behind was
Shay Littlejohn with a 1063 (514 smallbore, 549 air rifle).
Tierra Price rounded out the scoring for the Citadel women's team with a 1006 (486 smallbore, 520 air rifle).
The Bulldogs will have next weekend off from outside competition before closing out the fall semester portion of the season on Saturday, Nov. 11, with a home match against the No.11 Wolfpack of N.C. State and Clemson's club team.
