Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bulldogs Fall 4-2 at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Despite a furious final push that saw The Citadel women's soccer team score two goals in the waning minutes of Wednesday night's Southern Conference (SoCon) game at ETSU, the Bulldogs suffered a 4-2 road loss to the Buccaneers at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

The Bucs (4-9, 2-3 SoCon) received a hat trick from Eleonora Goldoni to go up 3-0 with 23 minutes remaining in regulation, including a goal in the first half and two in the second. Sarah Connolly then finished off ETSU's scoring in the 80th minute.

On the other side of the field, the Bulldogs (5-7, 0-4 SoCon) had several great looks throughout the first 80 minutes, including several attempts by freshman Ellie Burgess that forced Lea Ann Cutshall to make some critical saves. Those attempts finally began to pay off in the final nine minutes of regulation for The Citadel.

In the 82nd minute, graduate transfer Cierra Skyers was able to break up Cutshall's clean sheet as she put a corner from Hannah Roth into the back of the net. It was the first goal the Bulldogs had scored since the 87th minute of the road game on Sept. 22 at Mercer. That goal at Mercer was also scored by Skyers.

With just over two minutes left in regulation, Roth added to her night by scoring off a free kick from 30 yards out through traffic, with the ball just escaping the grasp of Cutshall.

Even though the Bulldogs were out-shot 20-13, The Citadel continued to be more efficient with the shot selection as eight of the Bulldogs' attempts were on frame compared to 12 by the Bucs.

Freshman Kaeley Johnston started the game in between the pipes for the Bulldogs, but Logan Leask (1-5) was saddled with the loss as she gave up what became the game-winning goal. Cutshall (3-6) earned her third win of the season for ETSU.

The Bulldogs will next travel to Western Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 8, for a 2 p.m. SoCon match.
