CHARLESTON, S.C. – After claiming the first victory of the season last weekend on the road at VMI, The Citadel rifle team will be back home this weekend with a match against two nationally-ranked programs inside the Inouye Marksmanship Center on Saturday, Oct. 7.
The Bulldogs will host No. 2 and perennial powerhouse TCU as well as 15
th-ranked Jacksonville State in a tri-match with action getting underway at 8 a.m.
"With it being Parents Week, we will be going with a slightly different lineup than normal. The seniors won't be shooting, so it will give our younger cadet-athletes a chance to go up against some very tough competition," said head coach
William Smith. "We'll be able to see some people shoot against outside competition for the first time this year and it will be a really great learning opportunity for them."
No. 2 TCU enters the weekend having competed twice already this season, winning both matches handily. The Horned Frogs started their season off by besting eight other teams at a match hosted by Memphis, including sweeping the top four spots, and followed that up the next day by besting 11 other teams at a match hosted by Ole Miss. In both competitions, the Horned Frogs also went up against Jacksonville State.
TCU is led by senior Mindy Miles, a five-time All-American, who led the nation in air rifle average last year with a 596.53.
The No. 15 Gamecocks opened the season by finishing third in the Memphis match and followed that up with a second-place finish at Ole Miss.
Jacksonville State is led by junior David Sink, who posted back-to-back strong performances in the Gamecocks' two opening matches.
