Bulldogs to Begin Outdoor Season Saturday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel track and field teams will start up their outdoor season at the Savannah State Eyeopener in Savannah, Georgia, on Saturday.
The Bulldogs finished their indoor season at the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship on February 26. The men's squad finished fifth overall, and the women's team took ninth place.
Junior Derrick Freeland broke The Citadel's all-time record in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 61 feet, 11.5 inches and took second place in the championship. Freeland earned all-conference recognition along with seniors Malik Diggs, Jackson Nosbisch and Mitchell Noel.
Diggs finished third in the 60-meter hurdles at the championship with a time of 8.23 seconds to improve to the No. 2 spot on the program's all-time list. Nosbisch and Noel tied for third place in the high jump with a leap of 6-4.75.
For the women's team, freshman Jessy Page was honored on the SoCon's All-Freshman Team in the 20-lb. weight throw with a seventh-place toss of 49-5.75 in the championship after breaking The Citadel's record earlier in the season with a toss of 49-9.75. Senior Caillian Colquitt set a personal record in the 5,000-meter race at the championship with a time of 18:36.90 to take 11th place and earn the No. 3 spot on The Citadel's all-time list.
The 4x400 relay team with Sarah Johnson, Emani Little, Hannah Murray and Ty'Rhonza Harris finished sixth at the championship and earned the No. 8 spot of all-time with a time of 4:03.40.
