Box Score JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Citadel tennis team dropped its match against the ETSU Bucs in Johnson City, Tennessee, on Friday.
Sophomores
Matthew Henson and
Roy Hobson fell in a close 6-4 doubles match at the No. 1 position against Robert Herrera and Diego Nunez. The Bucs (13-7, 7-0) continued on to sweep the remainder of the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead.
In the singles action, the Bucs' 52nd-ranked David Biosca defeated Henson at the No. 1 positon by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Herrera, ranked 125th in singles, then defeated freshman
Willem van Zyl at the No.2 spot 6-0, 6-1. The Bucs went on to win the match 7-0 to maintain a perfect conference record.
Next up, the Bulldogs (11-29, 1-5 SoCon) will head to Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday to conclude conference play against Samford and then faceoff against Alabama-Huntsville. The Samford Bulldogs have a 6-11 record overall and are 2-4 in the SoCon after defeating Chattanooga in a close 4-3 match on Wednesday. The UAH Chargers have a 9-14 record this season and will close out their regular season play on Saturday against The Citadel.
Saturday's match against Samford is scheduled for 2 p.m. before the Bulldogs take on Alabama-Huntsville at 7 p.m. Full results will be available at CitadelSports.com at the conclusion of both matches.
