CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team travels to Greenville, South Carolina, to face the Furman Paladins in the first round of the 2017 Southern Conference Tennis Championships on Friday.
The Bulldogs concluded the regular season with 11 wins overall, their highest total under head coach
Chuck Kriese and the program's most wins in a season since 2008. The Citadel enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed after defeating Chattanooga earlier this season for the Bulldogs' first conference win since 2009.
Freshman
Noah Nawabi finished the regular season with a team-high 17 singles wins. Sophomore
Roy Hobson and freshman
Willem van Zyl tied for second-most singles wins with 13 victories. Nawabi and senior
Connor Grady led the Bulldogs with 11 doubles wins, and sophomore
Michael Anzalone and freshman
Isaac Stolar had the team's second-highest wins total with six.
Furman is the tournament's No. 2 seed after finishing the regular season 16-7 overall and 6-1 in the SoCon. In the regular season matchup the Paladins claimed a 7-0 victory over the Bulldogs in Charleston.
The match against the Paladins is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, and the winner will advance to the semifinal round to face either third-seeded Mercer or sixth-seeded Samford. Live stats from Friday's match will be available at CitadelSports.com.
