PHILADELPHIA – The Citadel's
Mady Riegel competed in the 123rd Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on Friday.
Riegel won the first flight of the javelin competition with a heave of 142 feet, 4 inches, her second-best throw of the season, which sent her to the finals as the fourth-place seed. The junior from Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, was the first Bulldog to advance to finals in the Penn Relays in school history. Riegel finished the competition in seventh place overall.
Riegel is currently ranked No. 1 in the Southern Conference this season with a launch of 143-0 at the CSU Spring Break Invitational on March 17. Riegel's throw broke the program's javelin record, which she previously set when taking first place at the 2016 SoCon championship with a toss of 138-5.
Riegel and the rest of the Bulldogs will return to competition on Wednesday in North Charleston, South Carolina, at the Palmetto Classic. The meet is scheduled to last all day and final results will be available at CitadelSports.com.
