NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel's track and field teams competed in the CSU-Citadel Tune-Up hosted by Charleston Southern on Wednesday.

For the men's team, junior Derrick Freeland captured first place in the hammer throw with a toss of 172 feet, 1 inch to improve to the No. 2 spot on The Citadel's all-time list. Freeland also had a first-place finish in the discus with a heave of 154-1, the sixth-best toss in program history.

Senior Ross Jordan won the 1,500-meter race in a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 1.86 seconds. Junior Charlie Walker finished first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.01 and junior Devin Singleton took first place in the 400-meter race with a time of 50.94. Senior Malik Diggs finished first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.44. Diggs is currently ranked No. 2 in the SoCon in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.35 seconds, the second-best time in program history.

In the field events, sophomores Jordan Williams and Byron Parmely took first place in the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 22-9.25 and 40-0.75, respectively.

For the women's team, freshman Jessy Page took first place in both the discus and the hammer throw with tosses of 131-10 and 162-5, respectively. Senior Caillian Colquitt finished first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:09.63 and junior Mady Riegel secured first place in the javelin with a heave of 119-9.

Wednesday's meet was the final regular season invitational before the Bulldogs head to the 2017 SoCon Outdoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, on May 11-12.
