
The Citadel Heads to Lexington, Va. for VMI Team Challenge

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men and women's track and field teams hit the road for the VMI Team Challenge at the Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington, Va. on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Joining The Citadel and the VMI Keydets at the meet is High Point, East Tennessee State, Western Carolina, Charleston Southern and South Carolina State. Saturday's field events will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the men's weight throw and long jump, and track events are scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. with the women's 60m dash.

Last weekend, the Bulldogs had a record-breaking performance at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston Salem, N.C., where sophomore Kaeleigh Guth broke The Citadel women's record in the long jump with a jump of 17 feet, 8.25 inches to take sixth place overall. Guth also moved to the fourth spot on The Citadel's all-time triple jump list with a leap of 34-10.5. Freshman Samantha Engel earned the No. 2 spot in program history in the pole vault with a leap of 10-4.

Freshmen Amber Opp and Joie Royer also etched their names in The Citadel's record books in the 3,000 meters and 400 meters, respectively. Opp ran the ninth-fastest 3K time in program history in 11 minutes, 11.65 seconds, and Royer earned the 10th fastest time in program history in the 400 in 63.08.

For the men's team, senior Devin Singleton ran the third fastest time in school history in the 400m with a time of 49.92 to earn 2nd overall, and sophomore Ja'Lon Williams was 3rd in the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 50-4.25 to tie No.10 on the all-time list.
