CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 21
st-ranked Citadel co-ed rifle team followed up Saturday's strong performance against the ninth-ranked Air Force Academy and 24
th-ranked VMI by posting an aggregate score of 4536 against the Falcons at the Inouye Marksmanship Center Sunday.
"Being able to get two matches in against a quality opponent like Air Force helps us as we aim to close out the season on a high note in the coming weeks," said head coach
William Smith. "While the scores weren't quite at the same level as yesterday, I was pleased that we came ready to compete two days in a row. That will help us when we host the SoCon Championships and further on down the road."
The Air Force Academy took the dual meet with an aggregate score of 4684 over the Bulldogs' 4536. The Falcons claimed the top seven spots and nine of the top-10 led by
Anna Weilbacher's 1176 aggregate score.
Junior
Allison Auten posted an eighth-place finish with an aggregate score of 1150, comprised of a 566 in smallbore and a 584 in air rifle. Her smallbore score placed her ninth in the discipline while her air rifle score was the seventh-best score of the morning.
Behind Auten, freshman
Max Brabston posted an 1133 aggregate score made up of a 553 in smallbore and a 580 in air rifle. Sophomore
Alexander McAlear was third on the team with an 1128 aggregate score (555 smallbore, 573 air rifle) and senior
Colton Poole rounded out the top-four for the Bulldogs with an 1125 (553 smallbore, 572 air rifle).
Senior
Morgan Long shot an 1122 aggregate score, made up of a 550 in smallbore and a 572 in air rifle and junior
Leah Wallace rounded out The Citadel's lineup with an 1112 aggregate score (542 smallbore, 570 air rifle).
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs will close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Wofford. The Bulldogs and Terriers will also take on UAB in a SoCon match. Two weeks later, the Bulldogs will host an NCAA Qualifying match on Saturday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 18.
The Citadel will host the 2018 SoCon Rifle Championships March 3-4, 2018Â inside the Inouye Marksmanship Center as well as the 2018 NCAA Rifle Championships March 8-10, 2018 inside McAlister Field House. The NCAA rifle championships will mark the third national championship competition hosted at The Citadel and first since Johnson Hagood Stadium was the site of the 1983 and 1984 Division I-AA football national championship games.
