Bulldog Soccer Falls at Wofford, 3-2

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With 3:20 remaining in regulation, freshman Devyn Nyhart breathed new life into The Citadel women's soccer team's sails with a long goal, pulling the Bulldogs to within one of the home-standing Wofford Terriers. However, the Bulldogs were unable to find an equalizer in the closing minutes as Wofford claimed the 3-2, Southern Conference win Sunday afternoon.

25:22 – Katherine Arroyo played a ball from Kessy Bradshaw and dribbled up to the box, drawing a defender. Arroyo then passed the ball over to Logan Dix, who finished for her seventh goal on the year.

How it Happened
  • Wofford took a 2-1 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Terriers out-shot the Bulldogs 11-5 in the opening half.
  • The Bulldogs out-shot the Terriers in the second half, 8-6.
  • Nyhart was able to pull the Bulldogs to within one goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation, but the 'Dogs were only able to get one final shot off in the closing minutes.
  • Both sides had seven shots on goal.
  • The Citadel was extremely aggressive on the attacking side as the 'Dogs were flagged 12 times for being offsides.
 
Notables
  • Dix now has a team-leading seven goals and 17 points (7 goals, 3 assists) on the year. Her seven goals scored this year is tied for 10th most in program history while her 17 points on the year have her tied for 12th.
  • With her 10th-career goal, Dix is now tied for 10th in program history for goals scored. She now has 25 career points (10 goals, 5 assists), moving her into sole possession of 11th in program history.
  • The Bulldogs have scored 28 goals this season, the most since the 2014 team scored 34 goals. The 2012 team scored 38 goals on the year, including 12 in the final game of the season against Delaware State.
  • The Bulldogs' 10 multi-goal games are the most since the 2013 team finished the year with 10 games where they scored multiple goals. The 2010 team recorded 13 multi-goal games to set the program standard.

Next Up
The Bulldogs will remain in the Upstate, heading to Furman on Tuesday, Oct. 16 for a 2:30 p.m. game before returning home next weekend for the final two games of the regular season. The Citadel will first welcome Western Carolina to WLI Field on Friday, Oct. 19 before ETSU comes calling on Sunday, Oct. 21.
