The Bulldogs opened the
Tony Skole era with a little bit of everything last weekend, including a dramatic 3-0 win over George Mason with a two-run single by senior
Will Kinney in the eight to break open a scoreless game in the opener. Saturday's 8-3 loss to Louisville ended after eight innings due to a sudden "fog out," and Sunday's finale saw Richmond take advanatge of 10 walks to break open a tight game.
Â
This weekend, the Bulldogs get their first taste of series action as they host La Salle. Kinney led the Bulldogs with a .444 average and freshman
Cameron Jensen chipped in a three-hit Sunday in some of the high points for the Bulldog offense. Sophomore
J.D. Davis had a key double to set the table for Kinney on Friday night and had a .500 on-base percentage for the weekend. Freshman
Andrew Judkins had a solo home run on Sunday
Â
The Bulldog rotation showed promise as well, led by
Dylan Spence's seven innings of scoreless work on Friday night. The junior scattered four hits and reliever
Jordan Buster (W, 1-0) landed the win in preserving the shutout. Â
Â
La Salle is the third Atlantic 10 foe for the Bulldogs in four games to open the 2018 season. The Citadel opened the season with a 3-0 win over George Mason on Friday night in the Charleston Crab House Challenge, then fell to Richmond on Sunday in the weekend finale.
Â
La Salle went 2-2 in its opening weekend, a four-game series with Presbyterian. The Explorers alternated wins with the Blue Hose, grabbing games two and four including a 16-7 win in the series finale. The Explorers had 15 hits in the series finale – all singles – to move to .500 on the weekend. First baseman
Ben Faso leads La Salle with a .444 average and eight hits.
