Miscues Costly for Bulldogs in Loss to GS, 9-3

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Georgie Southern scored six runs over its final two at-bats to pull away from The Citadel on Tuesday night at Joe Riley Park, 9-3.

The Bulldogs fall to 3-4 on the season, while Georgia Southern improves to 5-3.

The Citadel outhit GS, 11-9, but Chandler Corley's three-run home run in the ninth was the big blow for the Eagles. GS starter Griffin Davis worked five innings, holding the Bulldogs to a run and three strikeouts. The Bulldogs held GS scoreless until the sixth behind two scoreless innings from starter Alex Bialakis.

Six wild pitches and three errors hurt the Bulldogs cause.

The Citadel took advantage of a leadoff walk in the first as Andrew Judkins scored on a sac fly by Taylor Cothran to take a 1-0 lead.

GS answered with a pair of runs in the sixth without the use of a hit, scoring on a walk, an error, and with the aid of three wild pitches.

The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom half at 2-2 on a squeeze play. J.D. Davis pushed home Cothran with the bases loaded to knot things up at the time.

Georgia Southern got an insurance run from Christian Avant when he tripled to right in the eighth, scoring Jeddediah Fagg to push it to 4-2, ahead of Corley's blast in the ninth.

The Bulldogs scratched out a run in the bottom of the inning as Bryce Leasure singled home Cothran, who double, with two outs.

Will Kinney went 3-for-5 and Cothran added a 2-for-3 night and scored twice.

Corley finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of runs scored, while Fagg scored twice.

The Bulldogs open a three-game series with Charleston Southern on Friday at Joe Riley Park. First pitch is at 6 p.m. Saturday's game is at CSU Ballpark, while Sunday's finale is at Riley Park at 1 p.m.
