CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team will dip back into Southern Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Wofford. The Bulldogs and Terriers will kick off the series with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday, April 20 and the series will continue on Saturday, April 21 at 3 p.m. The series finale will be contested at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 22.

Since 1965, The Citadel is 47-26 all-time against Wofford, but the Terriers have won the last four series. Last season, the Terriers picked up a 2-1 series win over The Citadel after the Bulldogs won the first game of the weekend 1-0. Wofford bounced back to win the next two games 7-4 and 4-2. The last time the Bulldogs claimed the series was 2013, a 2-1 series win in Spartanburg where The Citadel dropped the first game 5-4 before claiming wins of 9-8 and 18-9. In Spartanburg, the Bulldogs are 18-10 since 1965.
Wofford enters the weekend with a 25-13 overall record, including a 17-5 mark at home and 6-3 record in Southern Conference play. The Terriers have won six series on the year, including clean sweeps of Penn, Marist, Siena and Western Carolina. The Terriers also downed Furman 2-1 in their series last weekend, but are coming off a 5-3 road loss at UNC Asheville. As a team, Wofford is currently batting .294 with 92 extra-base hits. The Terriers boast 77 doubles on the year and have scored 265 runs, 235 of which were batted in. As a unit, the Terriers are getting on base at a .387 clip and have stolen 101 base on 117 attempts. Wofford's pitching corps brings a 4.60 ERA into the weekend compared to a 6.43 ERA by their opponents. The Terrier pitchers have struck out 303 batters compared to 118 walks and held opponents to a .250 collective batting average.
Four different Terriers are currently batting over .300 for the year, highlighted by
McClain Bradley's .363 in 37 games. Bradley is slugging .503 with a .420 on-base percentage and is leading the team with 57 hits on the year, but
Mack Nathanson leads the squad with eight home runs, 37 runs batted in, 39 runs scored and a .471 on-base percentage.
Colin Davis, who bats .339, leads the team with a .646 slugging percentage, including seven home runs, two triples and 14 doubles in 33 games played. Nathanson is second on the team with a .341 batting average and 15 stolen bases.
Brett Rodriguez leads the team with 22 base stolen on 23 attempts. Bradley, Davis and
Alex Malsch all boast over 10 stolen bases on the year. Cody Miller is the fourth Terrier with an above .300 batting average, hitting at a .305 clip heading into the weekend.
Wofford's three starting pitchers for this weekend have combined to pitch over 170 innings, including a pair of complete games. Both
Adam Scott and
Austin Higginbotham have worked a complete game and Scott has added a pair of saves. Scott leads the trio with a 2.89 ERA, but
Grant Byers boasts a 4-1 record. Scott has struck out 80 batters while Higginbotham has fanned 47 compared to 30 by Byers. Scott has also walked just 11 batters and is holding opponents to a .205 batting on the season.

The Bulldogs will return home next weekend for a three-game, Southern Conference series with Furman. The Bulldogs and Paladins will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 and will then wrap up the weekend with a 1 p.m. first pitch in the finale on Sunday, April 29.
