
Bulldog Track and Field Teams Post Several Records at USC Open

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Citadel track and field teams competed in the USC Open hosted by the University of South Carolina over the weekend. The Bulldogs broke two school records and had eight top-ten performances.
For the men, Jamie Cunningham broke the school record in the 3K with a time of 8:37.93 and placed third overall in the event.
In field events for the Bulldogs, Charlie Hatler took first place in the javelin with a season-best throw of 56.32. Kenya Pinckney took third in the high jump with a personal-best jump of 6-2. Sam Blumer placed second in the pole vault with an outdoor personal record of 13-11.25. Senior Derrick Freeland took second in the hammer with a mark of 50.18.Â
For the women, Casey Miller placed second in the steeple with a new personal record of 12:25, earning her the number-five spot in school history.
In the field, Mady Riegel bested her own school record and placed second overall in the javelin with a toss of 44.96. Jessy Page won the discus with a toss of 41.46 and took fourth place in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.83. Asyria Daniels placed second in the long jump with a season-best jump of 18-2.5.

The Bulldogs will send several cadet athletes to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this Thursday, April 26 through Saturday, April 28 to participate in the Penn Relays.
