The Citadel and College of Charleston have met on the baseball diamond 90 times since 1965 with CofC owning an all-time series record of 49-41 over the Bulldogs. The Cougars have won the last 11 games in the series with the last Citadel win coming back in 2014, 5-4 at Joe Riley Park on Saturday, March 8, 2014. The Bulldogs last won the series over the Cougars in 2013, taking two-of-three.
CofC heads into Tuesday's game with a 32-16 overall record, including a 25-7 mark at home and a 5-7 record in midweek tilts. Over the last 14 games, CofC has gone an even 7-7, winning series over Northeastern, Delaware and Towson. The Cougars dropped seven games in a row from Sunday, April 15 to Tuesday, April 24 before winning five in a row from Friday, April 27 to Saturday, May 5. Most recently, CofC took two of three in a home, Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) series with Towson.
Heading into Tuesday,
Luke Morgan and
Dupree Hart lead the Cougars with similar .333 batting averages. Morgan has a slight edge on Hart with three more hits, but Hart has drawn three more walks in nine fewer at-bats. Morgan leads the team with 40 runs scored while
Danny Wondrack has paced the squad with 39 runs batted in. Wondrack is currently batting .253 on the year with 23 extra-base knocks, tops on the team, including 11 home runs. Hart and
Logan McRae each have 13 doubles on the year to lead the team and McRae is second on the team with 32 runs batted in.
Bradley Dixon is third on the team with a .284 average while McRae boasts a .282 average. On the base paths, Morgan has stolen a team-high 18 bases with Hart second on the team with 12 stolen bases. On the mound for the Cougars,
Zach Williams will be making just his second start of the season, and his first appearance since March 27 against Coastal Carolina. Williams has made four appearances so far this season. At home against LIU Brooklyn on February 27, he went 3.2 innings and struck out four. On March 7 at nationally-ranked East Carolina, he again went 3.2 innings and gave up just three hits and one earned run, but walked four. He had a season-high six strikeouts in his 2018 debut at home against Coastal Carolina on February 21, pitching 3.1 innings of scoreless ball while giving up two hits and no walks.

The Bulldogs will close out the home portion of the 2018 campaign with four games at Joe Riley Park. The four-game stretch will begin with a Southern Conference series against UNCG, currently the top team in the SoCon. The Bulldogs and Spartans will square off on the diamond from Friday, May 11 through Sunday, May 13. The Bulldogs will then host CofC in the home finale on Tuesday, May 15.
