CHARLESTON, S.C. -Â The Citadel volleyball team dropped its first regular-season match to Appalachian State in the opening match of the UNC Asheville Invitational.Â
How it Happened
- The Bulldogs pulled out to an early lead, scoring four consecutive points to start the match. Back-to-back kills by Appalachian State allowed the Mountaineers to erase an early four-point deficit and take the lead 10-9 into a Bulldog timeout.Â
- Nine Errors proved to be costly as the Bulldogs would drop the first set by a score of 25-19.
- The Citadel dropped the second and third set, 25-14 and 25-17, despite freshman Maya Elassal hitting .400 in her debut.Â
- Mellanie King led the Bulldogs with seven kills and Megan Fuhr tallied 16 assists in the loss.Â

The Bulldogs will look to bounce back quickly as they take on UNC Asheville at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow followed by Coppin State at 4:00 p.m.
