Weekly Preview: 23rd-Ranked Bulldogs Travel to Spartanburg for Match with Wofford, Georgia Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 23rd-ranked Citadel mixed rifle team and the women's team will hit the road this weekend for a tri-match in Spartanburg on Saturday, Jan. 19. The Bulldogs will take on No. 24 Georgia Southern and No. 26 Wofford.

Saturday will mark the third match against the Eagles and the second with the Terriers. The Bulldogs defeated Wofford 4525-4435 on Oct. 13, but have dropped both previous matchups against Georgia Southern.

The Eagles have been led by Rosemary Kramer and Courtney Weekley, while Wofford has been led by Daniel Wesson.

In the Bulldogs' most recent match, The Citadel mixed rifle team improved their season-best aggregate score by 10 points against No. 10 Jacksonville State. Despite the strong showing by the Bulldogs, the Gamecocks managed to take the match 4666-4569.

Senior Allison Auten put together her best performance of the season, including an aggregate score of 1152, to finish sixth overall. Auten set season bests in both guns, finishing seventh in smallbore (572) and sixth in air rifle (580).

Freshman Izzie Blystone ended her day ninth overall with an 1144 and sophomore Max Brabston earned a 10th-place finish with an 1142. Blystone finished smallbore 10th with a season-best 570, while Brabston wrapped up smallbore in 11th with a 562. Brabston bounced back in air rifle with a seventh-best 580, while Blystone fired a 574 to end up 11th.

In smallbore, junior Alexander McAlear and freshman Emily Perkins wrapped up the scoring for the Bulldogs with a 558 and 529. McAlear, who's 558 in smallbore was his best of the season, ended his day with an 1131 aggregate, his second-best showing of the season, after firing off a 12th-best 573 in air.

Senior Leah Wallace shot a 548 in air rifle to round out the Bulldogs' scoring five in that gun.

Four members of the women's team traveled and competed in the air rifle portion of the match led by freshman Chelsea Sitarik's 543. Junior Tierra Price shot a 527, freshman Alisha Rabaca fired a 522 and freshman Megan Waters shot a 499.
