CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 23
rd-ranked Citadel mixed rifle team and the women's team will host 24
th-ranked Georgia Southern, the 25
th-ranked VMI mixed rifle team and VMI's women's team, as well as Clemson's club team on Saturday, Jan. 26 for a match at the Inouye Marksmanship Center.
The match will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will feature three relays.
The Bulldogs and Keydets have developed a friendly rivalry in rifle over the years that sees the winning team of their head-to-head matches holding on to the other team's range flag. The Citadel has won the last three regular-season meetings, having held on to VMI's range flag all of last season and this year.
The Citadel last faced off against the Keydets in the first match of the season (Sept. 22), a 4525-4421 win by the 'Dogs. The Bulldogs and Georgia Southern have gone head-to-head in three matches this season with the Eagles holding a 2-1 record over the 'Dogs in those meetings. The Citadel defeated No. 24 Georgia Southern, 4542-4486, last weekend in Spartanburg.
Georgia Southern has been led by
Rosemary Kramer and
Courtney Weekly. The duo has the Eagles' 15 top aggregate scores this season, including Kramer taking seven of the top eight. Last weekend, Kramer took top honors in air rifle (589) and aggregate score (1156) at the match in Spartanburg.
VMI's mixed team has been led by
John Pitman and
Hunter Jacob. Pitman and Jacob boast 10 of the Keydets' 11 best aggregate scores this year. Last weekend, Pitman turned in the team's third-best aggregate score, an 1138, in a match in Lexington, Virginia.
Last weekend in Spartanburg, The Citadel mixed rifle team claimed four of the top-five positions in the overall standings, including third by freshman
Izzie Blystone (1143), fourth by sophomore
Max Brabston (1140), sixth for senior
Allison Auten (1131) and seventh for junior
Alexander McAlear (1128).
McAlear finished third in smallbore with a 564, but Blystone was just behind with a 563, one ahead of Brabston's 562. Auten wrapped up three-position smallbore in eighth with a 554 and freshman
Emily Perkins ended the first gun with a 521.
In air rifle, Blystone bounced back to pace the Bulldogs with a third-place 580 and Brabston finished fifth with a 578. Auten was just behind Brabston with a sixth-place 577 and McAlear ended air ninth with a 564. Perkins wrapped up the scoring for the mixed team with a 541, giving her a 1062 aggregate score.
For the women's team,
Tierra Price led the way with a 1002, including a 471 in smallbore and a 531 in air rifle.
Alisha Rabaca posted a 987 aggregate score (454 smallbore, 533 air rifle) and
Chelsea Sitarik wrapped up her day with a 975 (433 smallbore, 542 air rifle).
Abby Koger shot just smallbore, posting a 489, while
Megan Waters shot air with a 510.
