CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team will play a pair of Southern Conference games at Washington Light Infantry Field this weekend, beginning Friday, Oct. 11 with a 3 p.m. tilt against Samford. The 'Dogs will then close out the weekend with a 2 p.m. game against Chattanooga on Sunday, Oct. 13.
THE BULLDOGS NATIONALLY
The Bulldogs are ranked in the top 50 in NCAA Division I in eight statistical categories, including second in shots per game (20.91) and fourth in shots on goal per contest (9.91). The 'Dogs are tied for 27
th in assists per game (2.09), tied for 31
st in points per game (6.64), tied for 34
th in goals scored per contest (2.27), tied for 36
th in total assists (23), tied for 40
th in corner kicks per game (6.09) and tied for 43
rd in total points (73).
INDIVIDUALLY IN THE NATION
Junior
Hannah Roth and freshman
Suzuka Yosue enter the week ranked in the top 50 in NCAA Division I in two statistical categories. Roth is currently tied for 18
th in the nation with an average of 4.36 shots per game. Yosue is tied for 29
th in the nation for assists per outing (0.56).
SCORING AGAINST MERCER
The two goals scored by the Bulldogs against Mercer on Oct. 3 marked the most by a Citadel women's soccer team against the Bears in program history.
LONG MOVING UP THE FRESHMAN LIST
Freshman
Hayley Long's third goal of the season came against Mercer on Oct. 3. Her three goals on the year moves her into a tie for 16th in program history for goals scored by a freshman. She is tied with
Logan Dix's 2017 campaign and four other former Bulldogs.
ROTH SETTING UP THE SCORE
Roth recorded her third assist of the season in the game at Mercer. She is now tied for second in program history for assists by a junior. Roth has recorded nine assists in her career. She is tied with
Nicole Martinoli (2007-10) and
Lauren Merchant (2002-05) for fourth in program history. Roth now boasts 23 points for her career, moving her into a tie for 14th in program history with
Miriam Crawford (2002-05).
DIXIE MAKING MOVES
Dix's fifth goal of the season came in the game at Mercer and moves her into a tie for fifth in program history for goals scored by a junior. She is tied with
Amy Loughran's 2010 season and
Nikki Mares' 2008 season. Dix now boasts 15 career goals, a mark that has her eighth in program history. She is just one goal away from reaching seventh in program history, two from sixth and three from fifth. Dix has registered 36 points in her career, a mark that places her ninth in program history. She needs just one point to reach eighth, three to reach seventh and four to reach sixth.
DEV ASSISTING
In the game at Mercer,
Devyn Nyhart recorded her fourth assist of the season, moving the sophomore up into a five-way tie for fourth in program history for assists by a sophomore. Nyhart boasts eight points on the year, a mark that has her tied with Nikkita Persaud (2009) for ninth in program history for points by a sophomore.
THE HISTORY WITH SAMFORD
Samford holds a 12-1-1 all-time record over the Bulldogs, including 9-1-1 in regular-season SoCon games and 5-0 in Charleston. The Citadel's lone win in the series, a 3-2 victory, came back in 2013. The two sides worked to a scoreless, double-overtime draw in 2011. Last season, the two teams met in the second round of the 2019 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship with No. 1 seed Samford claiming a 1-0 victory after
Caroline Orman scored in the 49th minute.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS FROM BIRMINGHAM
Samford enters the week with a 6-2-5 overall record, including a 3-0-1 mark in Southern Conference play and 2-1-2 away from home. The Bulldogs have won three straight and have earned a positive result in six straight matches, including a 3-3, double-overtime draw at Auburn on Sept. 15. The Bulldogs from Birmingham have played the likes of UAB, Murray State, LSU, Middle Tennessee State, Florida State and DePaul. Freshman
Taylor Yount leads Samford's offense with seven goals and an assist off 28 shots. Behind Yount, fellow freshman
Kyla Reynolds boasts four goals off 15 shots and is tied with junior Orman with two game-winning goals. Orman, fellow junior

Morgan McAslan has played over 1,200 minutes, boasting a 1.10 goals against average and 69 saves.
THE HISTORY WITH CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga holds a 12-5-1 overall record in the series, including a 4-2-1 mark in Charleston. The Bulldogs' last victory in Charleston came in 2010, while the last victory overall in the series came in Chattanooga in 2014. The last time these two met in Charleston, Chattanooga escaped with a 3-2 victory in overtime.
SCOUTING THE MOCS
The Mocs enter the weekend with a 7-3-3 overall record, including a 2-1-1 mark in SoCon play and a 4-2-1 record on the road. Chattanooga has played the likes of Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb, Georgia State, Alabama and Vanderbilt, including wins over Eastern Kentucky and Lipscomb and a draw with Alabama. The Mocs boast a pair of three-game winning streaks and have gone 1-1-1 in their last three games with a 2-0 win over Western Carolina and a double-overtime draw at ETSU. Sophomore

Faith Gober lead the Mocs in scoring with three goals each, while six other Mocs boast two goals scored. Sophomore
Hollie Massey leads the team with five assists and nine points, while senior
Bailey Gale brings four assists and eight points into the weekend. Between the pipes, sophomore
Abbey Saddler and
Ashton Shields have split time with Shields having played just over 630 minutes compared to 580 minutes by Saddler. Saddler boasts a 0.46 goals against average and 20 saves compared to a 0.85 goals against average and 27 saves for Shields.
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will take the final road trip of the regular season next weekend, traveling to Western Carolina and ETSU. The 'Dogs will play the Catamounts at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, and the Bucs at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.
