Bulldogs Drop Game to Samford

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team dropped a tough, Southern Conference game, 6-0, to Samford Friday afternoon at Washington Light Infantry Field.

SCORING SUMMARY
14' – Kyla Reynolds scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Caroline Orman after Orman broke into open field and passed to Reynolds on the right.
17' – Nikki Bario scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Alyssa Frazier.
48' – Bario scored her second goal of the game off a cross from Reynolds.
56' – Taylor Yount scored her eighth goal of the season off Frazier's second assist of the game when Frazier sent a pass into the box.
73' – Erin Bonner scored her second goal of the season off a blocked shot by Yount that returned to Bonner for the finish.
77' – Reynolds scored her second goal of the match off a quick-pass assist from Bonner that got by the keeper to Reynolds who was waiting for the score.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Samford came out firing with a header in the first five minutes of the game, with the second shot of the game finding the back of the net.
  • The Bulldogs from Birmingham didn't not let up as the next shot by Samford set the score at 2-0.
  • By halftime, The Citadel held a slight 4-3 advantage in shots despite trailing 2-0.
  • Samford scored four goals off eight shots in the second half to break the game open.
  • For the game, Samford out-shot The Citadel 11-10, but the home Bulldogs held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Freshman Suzuka Yosue led the way for the Bulldogs with four shots, including two on frame, while Taylor Diggs added a pair of shots of her own.

NEXT UP
The Bulldogs will host Chattanooga on Sunday, Oct. 13. The game, which will be streamed on ESPN3, will kick off at 2 p.m. and will feature free ice cream sandwiches for the first 150 fans to WLI Field.

Sunday is Youth Day and KIDet Club Day. There will be a bounce house for kids to play in as well as temporary tattoos. Halftime will feature a chance for kids to score on Spike as well as a performance by the Rifle Legion.
