Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Soccer Falls to Chattanooga at Home

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Despite a strong start to the second half that saw The Citadel women's soccer team earn several good chances to tie the game, the Bulldogs dropped a Southern Conference game, 2-0, to Chattanooga Sunday afternoon at Washington Light Infantry Field.

SCORING SUMMARY
6' – Mackenzie Smith scored the game's first goal with her first goal of the season with a chip shot over the Bulldogs' keeper off an assist from Chloe Arnold.
80' – Samantha Shaw and Bailey Gale combined forces to find Emily Szymanski in the box to put the Mocs up 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chattanooga was able to record the first goal of the game off the first shot and out-shot the Bulldogs 3-0 before Hannah Roth was able to record the first shot for The Citadel.
  • The Mocs out-shot the Bulldogs 5-1 in the first half, but the second half was a different matter.
  • The Bulldogs came out with great energy in the second half, taking three shots before Chattanooga was able to recover.
  • Hayley Long and Marie Le Gallo each took shots that forced the UTC keeper to make saves, including a diving save off Long's excellent chance from about eight yards out.
  • Despite the strong energy from The Citadel, Chattanooga was able to get the second goal of the game.
  • After starting the half off strong with a 3-0 advantage on shots, The Citadel was out-shot 7-4 in the second half.
  • Chattanooga held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks with both coming in the first half.

NEXT UP
The Citadel will hit the road for the final time of the regular season this weekend, traveling to Western Carolina and ETSU. The Bulldogs will first tangle with WCU on Friday, Oct. 18 before making the trek to ETSU on Sunday, Oct. 20.
