CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Bulldogs dropped their first of four-straight matches Friday night to Western Carolina, 0-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulldogs were tasked with breaking five different runs by the Catamounts, but came up short, dropping the set, 11-25.
- Freshman Maddy Cardenas came out swinging, breaking first set runs with four kills.
- 'Dogs scrapped throughout the second set, playing more aggressive at the net.
- Sharlissa De Jesus snagged three kills to thwart a potential run for the Catamounts, but back-to-back kills gave WCU the second set.
- Mellanie King and Makaya Middleton joined De Jesus in on the front row attack in the third set, but the Bulldogs were unable to stop a four and three-point run by the Cats.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sharlissa De Jesus led the Bulldogs on the front row with nine kills on the night, followed by Makaya Middleton with five and Maddy Cardenas with four.
- The 'Dogs were held to a .045 hitting percentage to the Catamounts' .305. The Cats registered six blocks throughout the match.
- The Citadel's defense battled from start to finish, with junior Megan Fuhr leading the 'Dogs with 19 digs.

"We decided to try out a lot of players to generate offense during tonight's match," said head coach
Dave Zelenock. "Our defense did a good job, but we just needed to find a way to get our offense going."
