CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team will hit the road for the final time of the regular season as the Bulldogs travel to Western Carolina and ETSU. The 'Dogs will first tangle with the Catamounts on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. before heading west to Johnson City, Tenn., to face the Bucs on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.
LONG MOVING UP THE FRESHMAN LIST
Freshman
Hayley Long's third goal of the season came against Mercer on Oct. 3. Her three goals on the year moves her into a tie for 16
th in program history for goals scored by a freshman. She is tied with
Logan Dix's 2017 campaign and four other former Bulldogs.
ROTH SETTING UP THE SCORE
Junior
Hannah Roth recorded her third assist of the season in the game at Mercer. She is now tied for second in program history for assists by a junior. Roth has recorded nine assists in her career. She is tied with
Nicole Martinoli (2007-10) and
Lauren Merchant (2002-05) for fourth in program history. Roth now boasts 23 points for her career, moving her into a tie for 14
th in program history with
Miriam Crawford (2002-05).
DIXIE MAKING MOVES
Dix's fifth goal of the season came in the game at Mercer and moved her into a tie for fifth in program history for goals scored by a junior. She is tied with
Amy Loughran's 2010 season and
Nikki Mares' 2008 season. Dix now boasts 15 career goals, a mark that has her eighth in program history. She is just one goal away from reaching seventh in program history, two from sixth and three from fifth. Dix has registered 36 points in her career, a mark that places her ninth in program history. She needs just one point to reach eighth, three to reach seventh and four to reach sixth.
THE HISTORY WITH WESTERN CAROLINA
Western Carolina holds a 16-1-1 record all-time against the Bulldogs, including having won the last eight meetings. The Bulldogs' lone win in the series came in the form of a 2-1 road victory in 2010.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
Western Carolina enters the week with an 8-6 record overall, including 4-3 at home and 2-3 in Southern Conference action. The Catamounts most recently split a pair of road games, defeating Wofford 1-0 before falling 1-0 at Furman. The Cats have been led in scoring by six players with multiple goals, including
Regan Ward's team-high four.
Kate Swartwout,
Payton Creed,
Mackenzie Wright,
Julia Winter and
Emily Threatt have all scored two goals, with Winter leading the team with four assists.
Shannon Greenwood is second on the team with three assists. Winter also leads the team with 23 shots taken on the year, including 12 that have been on frame. In goal, the Catamounts have utilized three goal keepers with
Melody Mezzina playing the majority of the minutes. Mezzina leads the trio with a 1.36 goals against average, 31 saves and four shutouts.
THE HISTORY WITH ETSU
ETSU is 8-1-1 all-time against The Citadel. Last season, the Bulldogs earned their first win over the Bucs with a 2-1, double-overtime victory in Charleston, breaking a five-game winning streak by ETSU.
SCOUTING THE BUCS
ETSU enters the weekend with a 4-8-3 record, including 2-4-2 at home and 0-4-1 in SoCon play. The Bucs worked to a 0-0, double-overtime draw with Chattanooga back on Oct. 6, but most recently fell on the road at Furman and Wofford. Despite the losing record, the Bucs have out-scored opponents 20-17. ETSU has been led by
Sarah Connoly's six goals off a team-high 41 shots, including 22 on frame.
Anjela Kricak,
Maegan Sours,
Momoko Horiuchi,
Beatrice Abati and
Pamela Penaloza have all scored two goals with Kricak leading the team with five assists. Between the pipes,
Tess Mrozek has recorded over 1,300 minutes, while boasting a 1.03 goals against average and 56 saves.
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will return home to close out the regular season with games against Furman and Wofford. The Citadel will host Furman on Friday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. before Wofford comes to town on Sunday, Oct. 27 for a 2 p.m. kickoff. The 'Dogs will also host an alumni weekend for Citadel soccer alumni based around football's homecoming weekend.
