RESULTS
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 22
nd-ranked Citadel mixed and the women's rifle teams hosted a pair of top-15 opponents Saturday at the Inouye Marksmanship Center, but ultimately fell to No. 5 Navy and No. 15 NC State. The Midshipmen posted an aggregate score of 4649, the Wolfpack registered a 4621, the Bulldogs recorded a 4490 and The Citadel women finished the day with a 3658.
Navy swept the top three spots and claimed four of the top five aggregate positions led by
Michael Zanti's 1166 and
Gabriella Mayes' 1165. The top finishing Bulldog was senior
Alexander McAlear with an 1136.
THREE-POSITION SMALLBORE
- Thanks in part to strong prone scores, the Midshipmen swept the top three spots in three-position smallbore. Zanti, Mayes and Mark Amdahl all posted 576s to finish ahead of a pair of NC State shooters, Makenzie Sheffield's 573 and Emily Fisher's 571.
- McAlear was the top finishing Bulldog, finishing 13th with a 559 after starting off strong in kneeling.
- Brandon Oerman posted a career-best smallbore score with a 534 to finish 19th.
- Sophomore Emily Perkins was the second-highest Bulldog, firing a 551.
- Freshman Cameron Bates and junior Max Brabston rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring five with a 17th-place 549 and an 18th-place 548.
- Senior Tierra Price led the way for the Bulldog women with a season-best 521.
- Freshman Demi Perez recorded a 503 in her first collegiate competition.
- Senior Victoria Krone recorded her career high in smallbore with a 497.
AIR RIFLE
- Zanti claimed the top spot in air rifle with a 590, just edging out NC State's Fisher off centers.
- McAlear was again the highest finishing Bulldog with a 12th-place 577.
- Bates finished second on the team with a 15th-pace 573 to lead 10 straight Bulldogs.
- Brabston was third on the mixed team with a 567, Perkins was fourth with a 566 and Jack Wittman finished 18th overall and fifth on the mixed team with a 555.
- For the women, Perez led the way with a 551.
- Price finished 21st overall and second on the team with a 536.
- Freshman Taylor Swiger posted a 530, while Krone finished with a 520.
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will take on fifth-ranked Navy in a head-to-head matchup tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 27. The single relay of the day will get underway at 8:45 a.m.
