Soccer Falls in Regular-Season Finale

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team dropped the regular-season finale, 1-0 to Wofford Sunday afternoon at Washington Light Infantry Field despite outshooting the Terriers 20-12.

40' – Savannah Vathy scored with a header coming off a corner kick from Erin Roche.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bulldogs managed to get two shots off in the first two minutes of play, one by Devyn Nyhart that wet wide, and another by Suzuka Yosue that was blocked.
  • Through the first 15 minutes of competition, the Bulldogs held an 8-2 advantage in shots over Wofford.
  • Wofford made several substitutions to keep fresh legs in the game all game long, including six nearly 30 minutes into the game.
  • One of those subs happened to be Vathy, who scored the lone goal with a header in the 40th minute.
  • Neither team managed a shot in the final five minutes of the first half.
  • Halftime was extended when a brief thunder cell moved through the area.
  • When play resumed, the Bulldogs came out shooting, getting off three shots compared to just one by Wofford in the first seven minutes of the second half.
  • Despite outshooting Wofford 9-6 in the period, the Bulldogs were unable to find the equalizer.
  • Wofford's Maria Mon made 11 saves in goal compared to five by Brie Sikes.
  • Wofford held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

NEXT UP
The Bulldogs will be the No. 9 seed in the upcoming 2019 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championships. The 'Dogs will travel to No. 8 seed ETSU for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
