JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Despite chilly temperatures and on-again, off-again rain, the ninth-seeded Citadel women's soccer team managed to keep their season alive with a 1-0 win over the No. 8 seed Bucs of ETSU Wednesday evening in the opening round of the 2019 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

Marie Le Gallo, sending the Bulldogs to the quarterfinal round against No. 1 seed Samford for the second straight season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rains began around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning and continued consistently throughout the day, causing the field to be saturated.
- The Bucs managed to get off five shots in the first 21 minutes and before Logan Dix managed to get the Bulldogs' first shot of the game.
- In the closing minutes of the game, the two teams were tied 3-3 on shots and still tied 0-0 on the scoreboard.
- Yosue opened the second half with a shot within the first three minutes that was blocked and a few minutes later, Dix forced ETSU's Tess Mrozek to make a diving save.
- The Bulldogs continued to apply the pressure, and in the 60th minute Le Gallo received the ball on the far side of the field and raced up the sideline before sending a cross into the box to Yosue who finished for the score.
- In the closing 30 minutes, ETSU took 11 shots in an effort to find the equalizer, but the Bulldog defense turned away each threat.
- Freshman keeper Brie Sikes earned her first win and clean sheet of her career.
- Dix led the team with four shots, including three on frame, while Yosue was second on the team with three shots.
NOTABLES
- The win marked the 25th win at The Citadel for head coach Ciaran Traquair. It was also the 55th win overall for Traquair.
- The win over ETSU in the opening round of the SoCon Tournament marks the first time in program history that the Bulldogs have won a game in the tournament in back-to-back seasons. It is just the fourth SoCon Tournament win in program history.
- The 1-0 win over ETSU marks the 10th time this season that the Bucs have been shut out this season.
- The shutout over ETSU marks the fifth shutout of the season for the Bulldogs. The five shutouts are the most since the 2016 team posted five shutouts.
- For the second season in a row, the Bulldogs advance to play No. 1 seed Samford in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Last season, Samford held on to win 1-0 in Birmingham.
- Yosue scored her fourth goal of the season Wednesday night. She is now tied for 15th in program history for goals scored by a freshman.
- Yosue now boasts 15 points, moving her into a tie for eighth in program history for points by a freshman.
- Yosue has now scored two game-winning goals, a mark that has her tied for fourth in program history for game winners by a freshman. She is tied with six other former Bulldogs.
- Yosue has taken 53 shots on the year, second most on the team. Her 53 shots rank tied for third in program history for shots as a freshman.
- With her second assist of the season, Le Gallo is now tied for 12th in program history for assists by a freshman. Fellow freshman Ani Ford also boasts two assists.
- Junior Hannah Roth has taken a team-high 58 shots, third-most in program history by a junior.
