Mixed Rifle Takes Down Wofford in Home Opener

RESULTS

CHARLESTON, S.C.
 – Led by career days by senior Alexander McAlear and sophomore Emily Perkins, The Citadel mixed rifle team opened the 2019-20 home schedule with a 4544-4445 win over Wofford's mixed team at the Inouye Marksmanship Center Saturday.

McAlear posted a career-best 1151 aggregate score, including matching his career best in smallbore with a 569.

Junior Max Brabston finished second overall with an aggregate score of 1141, while freshman Cameron Bates finished fourth with an 1126. Perkins rounded out the top five with a career-best aggregate score of 1126, and fellow sophomore Jack Wittman posted a career-best 1094 aggregate score.

Wofford's Daniel Wesson was the highest finishing Terrier with an 1128.

THREE-POSITION SMALLBORE
  • The Bulldogs' mixed team took top honors in three-position smallbore with a 2242 compared to 2209 by Wofford.
  • McAlear took top honors in the gun with his 569, while Brabston finished second with a 562.
  • Bates finished third on the team, but fourth in the field, with a 556, while Perkins finished fifth with a career-best 555.
  • Wittman was the final counter for the Bulldogs in smallbore, firing off a career-best 540.
  • The Citadel women's team was represented in smallbore by seniors Tierra Price (507) and Victoria Krone (481).

AIR RIFLE
  • The Bulldogs finished first in air rifle with a 2302 compared to a 2236 by the Terriers.
  • McAlear and Brabston once again finished one-two with McAlear firing a 582 and Brabston shooting a 579.
  • Perkins finished third in the gun with a 571.
  • Bates ended up fifth with a 570, while Brandon Oerman was the fifth counter for the 'Dogs in the gun with a seventh-place 558, marking his career high in the gun.
  • Wesson was the highest finishing Terrier with a fourth-place 570.
  • The Bulldog women were represented by Price with a 535, Krone with a 509 and freshman Taylor Swiger with a 496.

COMING UP
The Citadel will be back in action at home next weekend, hosting UAB and Georgia Southern on Saturday, Oct. 12.
